The Trinidad and Tobago Boxing contingent departed for Baku, Azerbaijan on Monday 13th June to compete at the AOB World Olympic Qualification Event with the hopes of joining Super heavyweight boxer Nigel Paul at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. The qualifying event will take place from 16 - 25 June, representing an opportunity for AOB boxers to reach this year’s Olympic Games.
The selected athletes that are representing Team TTO in Baku include:
Anthony Joseph – Flyweight (52 kg)
Michael Alexander – Lightweight (60 kg)
Jean Paul Cooper – Light welterweight (64 kg)
Aaron Prince – Welterweight (69 kg)
Andrew Fermin – Light heavyweight (81 kg)
The last qualifying event for male boxers at the AOB World Olympic Qualification Event will offer the last 39 spots for the 10 Olympic weight divisions. The top five boxers in Baku at flyweight (52 kg), bantamweight (56 kg), lightweight (60 kg), light welterweight (64 kg), welterweight (69 kg), middleweight (75 kg) and light heavyweight (81 kg) will all earn Olympic quota places along with the two light flyweight (49 kg) finalists, while the champions at heavyweight (91 kg) and super heavyweight (91+ kg) will also qualify.
