Trinidad and Tobago’s female rower Felice Aisha Chow has become the latest national athlete to qualify for the Olympic Games in Brazil later this year.
Chow made the qualifying time in her category while competing at the World Rowing Federation (FISA) Americas Olympic Continental Qualification Regatta in Valparaiso, Chile on Wednesday.
It was in the semi-finals of the 2,000 metre Women’s 1x on Wednesday that Chow achieved a personal best of seven minutes, 49.966 seconds, finishing third behind the winner, Kenia Lechuga Alenis of Mexico and 2nd-placed Antonia Abraham of the host nation. Alenis’ winning time was 7:46.094.
On Thursday, Chow finished 5th in a six-athlete final; rowing in the outside lane (lane six) she produced a slower time of 7:52.750;. The winner was Bermuda’s Michelle Parson, in 7:42.008.
Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs Darryl Smith has expressed congratulations to Felice Aisha Chow on her qualification for the Games in Rio de Janeiro. A release from the ministry listed Chow as the fifth Trinidad and Tobago athlete to qualify.
