For the sixth year, the T&T Olympic Committee (TTOC) will partner with the T&T International Marathon (TTIM) and will participate in the 38th edition of the race to raise awareness and funding for the organisation's Team TTO #10golds24 athlete welfare and preparation fund.
The 26.2-mile race, which is the feature event in the Marathon Festival of Events, will take place on Sunday, starting at St Mary's Junction in Freeport and ending at Whitehall, Queen's Park Savannah in Port-of-Spain.
The TeamTTO #10golds24 " marathon walk" contingent will be sent on their way by the starter at 3.30 am. Some of the registered participants supporting the TTOC Team TTO #10golds24 athlete welfare and preparation fund are TTOC president Brian Lewis, Senator Clarence Rambharat, Minister of Agriculture, Lands and Fisheries, Assemblyman Jomo Pitt, Secretary of Sport and Youth Affairs Tobago House Of Assembly (THA), Councillor Samuel Sankar, Nigel M Baptiste, Managing Director Republic Bank Ltd and president and chief executive officer Republic Financial Holdings Ltd, Roger Sant, Andre Baptiste, Tony Lee, Mark Pouchet, Captain Andy Cheekes (Caribbean Airlines) and Commander Don Polo-Acting Commanding Officer Coast Guard and Curtis Nero (Head of Finance Unit, CARDI).
The others include Ytannia Wiggins (Barbados Olympic Association and Caribbean Association of National Olympic Committees Executive Committee member), Richie Rahim, Chantell Barry (chairperson T&T Gamers Gamers Association), Patricia Henry (Bptt), Bertram Smart, Theron Maingot, Ramon Sambrano, Rugby Americas referee Ryan Hinkson (Harvard Club), Arlene Lewis, Merryl Seetai (president T&T Canoe and Kayak Kayak Federation), Vivian Johnson, Carl Williams, Mcdonald Lucas, Victorio Hawkins, national rugby player Wayne Kelly (Harvard Club) Michael and Suzanne Ali, Nigel Bellamy, Wai Wai Ng, Aaron Gonzales, Abeola Holder-Pierre, Charmaine Dookie, Hayden Alleyne, Joanne Maynard, Kenneth Osbourne, Leah Naumman, Patricia Henry, Shane Lue Choy, Stephen Ditzen, Anthony Marcano (national women's hockey coach) and Shivanna Ramsingh.
Also, the TTOC Team TTO registered participants will be accompanied by 18 members of the coast guard.
The unit has also registered two 10-member teams for the first-ever T&T International Military Challenge - each member of the team will carry a 20lb backpack and the time taken to determine the winner of the military challenge is that of the last team member to cross the finish line.
A number of individuals including athletes, sports administrators and media personalities have committed to join the "marathon walk " along the journey.
TTOC assistant secretary general Nadine Khan, Dr Rudy Ramsawak, Lovie Santana, Stacy Santana and Rheeza Grant will make up the TTOC support and assistance team while the coast guard will also provide assistance along the route.
The Marathon Festival begins today with the TTIM Kiss National 5k from 4 pm.
