The Trinidad and Tobago Olympic Committee (TTOC) in collaboration with Sport for Life, Olympic Solidarity and the Caribbean Association of National Olympic Committees will host a workshop on Physical Literacy. The workshop will be held at the VIP Room Grand Stand Queen’s Park Savannah on Monday 3rd and Tuesday 4th October, 2016 from 9:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M.

In February 2016, as part of the #10golds24 vision, the TTOC embarked on an 18-month Long Term Athletes Development (LTAD) pilot project aimed at creating a developmental pathway for sport in Trinidad and Tobago. Earlier this year, both Richard Way and Istvan Balyi visited Trinidad in February and May respectively.

For the 3rd visit, Director of Physical Literacy of Sport for Life, Mr. Drew Mitchell will facilitate the physical literacy workshop. Mitchell works as a consultant focused on the development of physical literacy and better sport at the community level.

Developing physical literacy is one of the cornerstones of being Active for Life and having better long- term health outcomes. To be physically literate includes the ability to move with poise and confidence across a wide range of activities. It also includes competencies that are linked to the development of the whole person (e.g., physical, affective, cognitive).

The LTAD pilot project involves 6 countries within the Caribbean. Trinidad and Tobago is one of six Caribbean nations selected by CANOC to benefit from the LTAD programme for two years from 2016-2018. The other countries selected include Suriname, Haiti, Bahamas, St. Vincent and the Grenadines and British Virgin Islands.
