The Trinidad and Tobago Olympic Committee (TTOC), following discussions with the Trinidad and Tobago Football Association (TTFA), has opted to pay for the national senior women’s team hotel accommodation during their pre-Olympic qualifier training camp which is scheduled to kick off in Houston, Texas, today.
The Women Warriors’touched down in the US yesterday to begin a live-in training camp ahead of their CONCACAF Olympic qualifying opening match against Guatemala on February 11. TTOC, in keeping with its strategy to achieve 10 or more Olympic gold medals by the year 2024, saw it fit to foot the bill for these promising Olympic hopefuls.
Having been unable to travel to Costa Rica for two international warm-up matches due to financial constraints and visa matters, the national outfit will now only be able to conduct their training camp in Houston before heading to the nearby BBVA Compass Stadium to face the Central Americans.
TTOC secretary general, Annette Knott, said the TTOC’s focus on athlete welfare and preparation is a priority. “We wish the team success in their efforts to create history and become the first (local) team sport to qualify for the Olympics.” TT are also scheduled to play Canada and Guyana on February 14 and 16 respectively. The two top nations advance to the semifinal round with only the finalists advancing to the 2016 Olympics.
Currently, the squad is being led by Richard Hood after American Randy Waldrum was replaced approximately two weeks ago
