Youngsters urged to seize opportunity to design the mascot for the Games.

Port of Spain, Trinidad, 16 January 2023: Trinbago 2023 today celebrates 200 days to go to the Commonwealth Youth Games, set to take place in Trinidad and Tobago from 4-11 August. The event will see more than 1,000 young athletes, from 72 Nations and Territories across the Commonwealth, compete in seven sports - Aquatics (Swimming), Athletics and Para Athletics, Cycling (Road and Track), Triathlon, FAST5 Netball, Rugby Sevens, and Beach Volleyball.

Athlete, venue and logistics planning for the Games is on track and moving forward at pace. Preparations will further accelerate over the coming months, with Trinbago 2023 promising to be a vibrant and special event, that will inspire young athletes around the Commonwealth.

The competition for places will be fierce, with National Governing Bodies gearing up for qualification events and excitement high among young athletes eager to participate in the Games. With so many determined to compete, the contest for medals is sure to be thrilling and action-packed.

The Games will take place in venues across Trinidad and Tobago, showcasing the twin islands’ sporting infrastructure. Significant progress has been made in preparing the selected venues, including comprehensive venue assessments and plans for refurbishments and upgrades.

Local Organising Committee Chair, Mr. Ephraim Serrette said: “Whilst more still needs to be done to prepare the selected venues on both islands, we are making excellent progress and with 200 days to go are confident all necessary works will be completed in good time.”

As anticipation grows, the Trinbago 2023 team is offering youngsters across Trinidad and Tobago the unique opportunity to design the mascot for the Games. The competition, which will close at the end of January, is open to children and young people between the ages of 6 and 17.
