BRIAN LEWIS, president of the TT Olympic Committee (TTOC), says that sports can play a vital role as TT recovers from the global coronavirus pandemic.
Lewis, in a media release, said, “Sport and physical activity will be essential components in the process of national recovery. Sport has a positive effect for health, social inclusion and the economy of TT.”
According to Lewis, “In pursuing social and economic post covid-19 recovery policy objectives adequately satisfying the health, recreational and leisure needs of the population will be important. The TTOC and its affiliated National Sport Organisations (NSOs) will need to ensure proactive collaboration and cooperation with Government and the THA (Tobago House of Assembly) in establishing programmes and implementation plans to address the need for the general population to play and enjoy recreation and sport in a safe and healthy environment.”
Lewis added, “The promotion of health and the prevention of non-communicable diseases, in the post covid19 recovery process, must be a priority for the TTOC and National Sport Organisations.”
