Trinidad and Tobago earned it’s first medal at the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games after Dylan Carter won Silver in the Men’s 50m Butterfly at Optus Aquatic Centre on Friday 6 April.

Carter touched the wall in 23.67 behind South African Chad Le Clos who won 23.37, with Ryan Coetzee (23.73) finishing third.

On Thursday morning, in the preliminary heats, Carter finished first in heat 6 in 23.62; swimming the second fastest time overall. Dylan swam the semifinal 1 later that evening placing 2nd in 23.90 behind Australian Grant Irvine (23.79).

Despite feeling slightly unwell in his semifinal swim on Thursday night, he felt prepared heading into the finals. "I was a bit off last night (in the semifinal) but as soon as I hit the pe (tonight) I knew I was going to be in the mix. I touched the wall and I thought I'd be top two and I was."

Also in today’s results, the Men’s Table Tennis Team suffered a 3 - 1 defeat against Northern Ireland. Most notably, Dexter St. Louis had an impressive showing in Match 1 after defeating Ashley Robinson (NIR).

In the first round of the Men’s Keirin, Njisane Phillip (6th), Nicholas Paul (5th) and Kwesi Browne (3rd) all missed out on qualifying for the second round. Phillip, Paul and Browne competed in the repechage, all placing 2nd in their respective heats but it wasn’t enough to move forward onto the next round.

Beach Volleyball duo Abby Blackman and Rheeza Grant made a commendable effort against the English pair Grimson/ Palmer. However, Grant/ Blackman were defeated 21-16, 21-12.
