For many years, St James, the city that never sleeps, has been associated with bars, street vending and homemade ice cream carts.

Now those craving an authentic homemade taste can do so with a wide range of flavours, toppings, sundaes and specialty milkshakes in a safe and comfortable environment.

J’n’J Homemade Ice Cream recently opened its first retail location on the corner of Western Main Rd and Coronation Street, St James, directly opposite the St James District Regional Health Facility.

At the official opening, patrons were treated to a quaint ice cream store experience with more than 12 flavours of JnJ Homemade ice cream available as well as pre-packed take home pint and quart sizes.

Free samples were available to those new to the taste of J’n’J Homemade ice cream, while sundae creations and specialty “Jrinks” catered for those who wished to experiment with additional decadence.

The brand first appeared in 1983 in Carnbee, Tobago. Its secret formula was developed by Jeannie and John Leotaud.

At age 76, Jeannie passed the baton to Valerie and Jeffrey Joseph in 2001. From then to now, the business has undergone many changes and the special taste that has survived more than 30 years and counting, now operates from a modest factory in Bon Accord, Tobago.

This delicious, rich and creamy homemade product boasts flavours typical of the tropical fruits and vegetables to be found in T&T. More than 15 unique and exotic flavours are now manufactured on regular rotation, with an additional 20 available on request.

These include specialty creations such as the flagship pumpkin coconut and the innovative beetroot vanilla, while the past is honoured with traditional flavours such as old fashioned coconut and Tobago creole chocolate.

J’n’J Homemade ice cream flavours contain only natural preservatives with no additives.

The company proposes to open at least six more franchises throughout T&T.
