Firefighter #3618 Jamiyla Atiya Muchammad was given a full military send off yesterday following a church service at the St Francis of Assisi Church in Belmont on Friday. Father Thomas Lawson officiated at the service.
She was laid to rest at the Tunapuna Public Cemetery. A 14-year veteran of the T&T Fire Service, firefighter Muhammad, who passed away on Monday after a battle with cancer, was a serving Member of the Central Executive Committee of the association representing the Morvant Fire Station for several years with the organisation’s Second Division.
Leading the celebrations of Muhammad’s life was Chief Fire Officer (CFO) Arnold Bristo and his men who wore full Firefighter dress uniform (Tunic) together, with acting Divisional Fire Officer Rohan Singh.
Muhammad’s daughter, Atiyyah George, gave the eulogy which was followed by tributes by Sharon O’Brien, who represented both the Trinidad and Tobago Football Association and the T&T Women’s League of Football (WoLF).
Other tributes came from her netball team Chips, her basketball club Brian Chase Academy and the Fire Services Second Division president Leo Ramkissoon.
Muhammad, 38, was attached to the Morvant Fire Station. She was also a former player of both netball and basketball, and served as the general secretary of WolF up the the time of her passing and serviced as a TTFA board member. She is a former Trinidad and Tobago Women’s National Under-20 Team manager in 2015.
