The 2012 men's javelin champion has been named Trinidad and Tobago flagbearer for the 2016 Olympic Games opening ceremony, scheduled to start at 7 p.m. (TT time).

FELICE AISHA CHOW, the 39-year-old rower, will be the first Trinidad and Tobago competitor in action at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

ACTING Prime Minister Colm Imbert yesterday had a message for Trinidad and Tobago’s Olympic team at Brazil. “Best of luck,” Imbert said. “Win plenty of medals and make us proud. Looking forward to seeing the Trini flag flying high at the medals ceremonies.” Imbert also confirmed Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley landed safely at California on Thursday night.

Now that the Opening Ceremonies of the 2016 Olympic Games have suitably impressed the global audience, the TTOC wishes to advise the national population of the unprecedented coverage of the Games across many viewing platforms. 

Even if only for two weeks, can “Faster-Higher-Stronger” overpower deadlier, scarier and bloodier? Can the Olympic Games still offer the world momentary levity, distract from terror, shootings, poverty and other worries in globally grim times?
